Open Art Events
These are free public events where you simply paint or draw in a positive, judgment-free community environment. Some supplies are available, but you’re encouraged to bring your own. I usually facilitate at least one of these per month in the Lancaster area.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do your open art events work?
They are not like “paint nights” in that I don’t formally teach about painting. These free (donate what you will) public events are about being given the space and supplies to create what you want, in a positive atmosphere, where you also potentially make new friends.
A donation, bringing your own supplies, or offering to share your supplies with your tablemates helps to offset costs, but there is no pressure about that.
I’m not artistic. Why would I go to an open art event?
You obviously don’t have to. 🙂 But at these events, I’ve seen people discover creative abilities they didn’t know they had, or at least start to express themselves in ways they didn’t know they could. I often see people relax and unwind when they draw or paint for the first time, naturally flowing into the therapeutic creative process. At every event, there’s usually at least one person who says, “This is so therapeutic. I could really get into this!”
I’m not artistic. I know you don’t teach, but can you teach me?
I find that people who say this think they need to draw or paint something “good” (i.e., accurately representational of something). Not all “good” art is representational. Look up the works of Picasso, Piet Mondrian, and Cy Twombly; all three of them have made their mark in the art world and have work in museums.
I’m usually around to offer prompts, tips and suggestions, and yes, I can informally teach a little bit. But I do encourage you to make art that comes from you. 🙂
Would you do a private art session with my group? Would you teach us?
I normally don’t do “paint night” type events (where I teach a group), but I might be open to it. Feel free to contact me about what you have in mind and we can talk about it! Unlike the public events, there would be a cost involved.
If you just want to host an open art night in the same way I do the public ones, I can do that! You would be responsible for inviting people and providing food, and I limit this to the Lebanon and Lancaster areas. If you want, I’m also happy to just give you tips and ideas on how to host/facilitate an event on your own!
