There was a time when I desperately needed rest, to get away from what was triggering some heavy anxiety. A friend told me about a Jesuit monastery where she had done a personal retreat, so I looked into it. The retreat turned out to be exactly what I needed. The property was gorgeous, like a castle, and I met wonderful people. One particular spot was special to me–the weeping beech tree. The tree itself is something you “enter in”; it creates a cocoon around you. I had an incredibly restful moment drawing under this tree. In this piece, I tried to capture what it felt like to be “inside” the tree, looking out towards the light.
